Limited, first-party gameplay analytics
Trip Detective collects limited gameplay events through its own service so the game can be improved. This data should not be treated as identifying unique people.
What is collected
- A random identifier created for the current browser tab
- Game opens, homepage choices, journeys started and completed, whether you chose Today’s Challenge or Play, clues reached, answer screens opened, answers correct or incorrect, score stage, reveals, replays, result shares, Daily-to-Play continuation, and technical errors
- Completion-retention milestones derived from the Daily history stored in this browser
- Referring website domain and limited campaign labels, associated with a browser-tab session; full referrer URLs are not saved
- The journey code connected to those events
What is not collected
The game does not ask for or save your name, email address, account, typed destination answer, or precise location. It does not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking, a permanent player identifier, or cross-device matching.
Storage on your device
Your current Play journey, recent Play route history, Daily results, and streak are stored in your browser. A separate random analytics reference links a first Daily completion to a later Daily completion within seven days. This reference and pending delivery state expire after 30 days and are removed on a subsequent visit. An analytics-exclusion preference can also be saved in this browser. A temporary random attempt identifier may be stored with an in-progress Daily so events after a reload belong to the same attempt. It is removed when that Daily is completed and is not stored in completed Daily history. Clearing this site’s browser data restarts the local history.
Satellite map provider
Satellite imagery is delivered by Esri’s ArcGIS Basemap Styles service. When the map loads, your browser connects to Esri and necessarily shares connection information such as your IP address, browser details, referring site, and the map tiles requested. See the Esri Privacy Statement for details.
How the data is used
Collected data is used only to understand gameplay activation, outcomes, completion retention in local browser histories, continuation, sharing, and technical problems. Historical ratings and feedback comments are retained temporarily and may be read by the game creator. Raw gameplay events older than 90 days and historical feedback older than 180 days are removed automatically, based on when the server received them.
Your choice
If you do not want local journey or Daily history retained, clear the site data in your browser after playing. Doing so also restarts locally measured completion history.
